HFD Property Group donates full set of bicycles to Friends of Sanderson Charity
HFD Property Group (HFD) are proud to be supporting the launch of a new local charity ‘Friends of Sanderson’. The charity is connected to East Kilbride based Sanderson High School which provides support to children with additional support needs in South Lanarkshire.
In 2017, Sanderson High School’s innovative school curriculum was honoured at the Scottish Education Awards, as the top Secondary School in Scotland for Employability Across Learning. The school aims to fully equip pupils with relevant life skills and experiences to benefit them throughout their time at school and beyond.
Matt Bellshaw, Director at HFD Property Group said: “HFD aims to support the community in which we operate and recently undertook development of a new Research & Development building for TUV SUD in East Kilbride. Cycling is increasingly popular among our occupiers and provide both health and environmental benefits. We heard about the launch of Sanderson High School’s new charity and their goal to expand their physical education programme to include cycling. This was an excellent fit with HFD’s focus on sustainable development, which delivers economic benefit to local communities. It was easy to see how this initiative would enhance Sanderson High student’s access to both employment and social opportunities. As such, HFD were delighted to make the first donation to the ‘Friends of Sanderson’ charity.”
The students at Sanderson also have some notable inspiration around with two pedigree local cyclists involved in national and international competitions, Alistair Graham (S3 pupil) and Ruairidh Brown (19 years old, former pupil), pictured below.

Alistair Graham, is set to participate at the World Summer Special Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi in 2019, which follows 3 gold medals won at the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games in Sheffield in 2017.
Ruairidh Brown, a former pupil at Sanderson has been selected for the 2018 INAS European Championships in Paris. Ruairidh has achieved success at Special Olympics European Games in Belgium in 2013, where he won 2 gold medals and at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles where he came home with 2 silver medals and a bronze.
HFD’s donation of £5,000 allowed the charity to purchase a full class set of bikes, including mountain bikes, ‘step-through’ bikes and an adapted tricycle, with safety equipment and accessories. The cycling lessons will focus on learning to ride safely and responsibly, and will include cycle maintenance and security. This will help reinforce education on healthy and active living, which is an important aspect of Sanderson High School’s curriculum.
